In Manatee, a new bus service is shutting passengers to Tampa International Airport. In Sarasota, Clarke Advertising & Public Relations are at work trying to "brand" a company that makes telephone system accessory products.

Gerard Crum has been named senior vice president of the office Properties Division at Grubb & Ellis of Florida. In Manatee County, Sean Wright has become administrator at Peninsula Asset Management Inc. in Bradenton. And in Polk County, Judy Gay has been named executive director of the Bartow Chamber of Commerce.

Former IRS accountant John P. Baumann Jr. started his own Tampa CPA firm and was doing quite nicely. Two years ago he figured out how to escape from the typical CPA box, and now his firm is in high-growth gear, specializing in business valuations and litigation support.

Big bank mergers are all the rage, but they usually disgorge a number of dissatisfied customers who long for the services of the bank on the corner. Investors have plunged into this niche, with more than 18 community banks either open or about to open in the Tampa Bay area. Can so many banks succeed. At least one analyst thinks so.
